About This Project

This project involved the complete restoration of the Cardwell Foreshore (4.9km of beach frontage) following severe damage caused by Cyclone Yasi.

Boyds Bay Landscaping successfully entered upon a joint venture with SEE Civil to secure the largest single works package let under the Federal and QLD Governments Natural Disaster Relief Fund.

 

‘Scope of Works’ included:

 

LANDSCAPING –

  • 4.3km strip of foreshore flora restoration (dunal & parklands)
  • Assisted restoration of sensitive mangrove habitat between Cardwell & Port Hinchinbrook
  • 2 x playgrounds, one complete with massive dugong play feature;
  • Concrete terraced grandstand
  • Basketball court
  • ‘Plaza style’ entry to the Cardwell Jetty
  • Amphitheatre & Stage
  • Several staircases leading down onto the beach, including one large centrepiece staircase
  • Structural retaining walls
  • 3.5m wide shared path running the entire 4.3km length of foreshore
  • Irrigation
  • Lighting
  • Picnic tables
  • Exercise stations
  • Viewing platforms
  • Custom built shelters
  • Renovated Parks

 

ENVIRONMENTAL – 

  • Produced and implemented the Construction Environmental Management Plan (CEMP)
  • Supplied the on-site environmental management team
  • Produced and implemented the Acid Sulfate Soil Management Plan that was reviewed by state and federal government representatives and involved the transport, treatment and neutralisation of 180000m3 of verified material
  • Produced the Rehabilitation Plan for the Acid Sulfate Soils treatment pit
  • Were the principal environmental representative for the entire project
